How to Change Drive Letters in Windows XP

How to Change Drive Letters in Windows XP

When you add drives to your computer, such as an extra hard drive, a CD drive, or a storage device that corresponds to a drive, Windows automatically assigns letters to the drives. However, this assignment might not suit your system; for example, you might have mapped a network drive to the same letter that Windows assigns to a new drive. When you want to change drive letters, follow these steps:

Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

Under Computer Management, click Disk Management.

In the right pane, you'll see your drives listed. CD-ROM drives are listed at the bottom of the pane.

Right-click the drive or device you want to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

Click Change, click Assign the following drive letter, click the drive letter you want to assign, and then click OK.

How to sniff and hack plain-text passwords in 13 steps

How to sniff and hack plain-text passwords in 13 steps
The following is an instructional tutorial. I hope to show how easy it is to sniff people's passwords in plain-text form on virtually any wired network. Common applications for this would be on a university, school or otherwise large network. This has only been tested on a Windows machine, but can be used to sniff passwords from any operating system.

Step 1: Download, install and run Cain & Abel at http://www.oxid.it/cain.html.
Step 2: Click "Configure" in the top bar.
Step 3: In the "Sniffer" tab, click the adapter which is connected to the network to be sniffed, then click "Apply", then "OK".
Step 4: Click the "Sniffer" tab in the main window.
Step 5: Click the network card in the top bar (2nd icon from the left).
Step 6: Click the "+" button in the top bar.
Step 7: Select "All hosts in my subnet", click "OK". Entries should appear in the main window under the "IP address", "MAC address" and "OUI fingerprint" headings.
Step 8: From the "Sniffer" tab, click "APR" in the bottom tab.
Step 9: Click the top right pane in the main window. Click the "+" button in the top bar.
Step 10: Click on the router in the left pane. The router is generally the entry which has the lowest final IP value (xxx.xxx.xxx.*). Highlight the IP addresses to sniff in the right pane. Click "OK".
Step 11: Click the ARP icon in the top bar (3rd icon from the left). Wait until other users have logged into websites on other computers. Depending on the size of the network and the traffic which this network receives, this can range from minutes to hours.
Step 12: After some time has passed, click "Passwords" in the bottom tab.
Step 13: In the left pane, select the bolded entries. The right pane should show the time, server, username, password (in plaintext) and site accessed.

Please use this tutorial with caution as most private institutions, as well as countries, have strict rules and laws against network sniffing and could lead to expulsion from an institution, as well as critical litigation! This tutorial is for educational purposes only and should only be used to demonstrate the security weaknesses of common networking infrastructures.

Human getting a label "Verichip Inside"

Some days back a hospital in New York (Vassar Brothers Medical Center) Begun bar coding its incoming patients like a commodity inventory at a supermarket.

They said it reduces not only the workload but also reduces the human errors. It saves millions of dollars too.

Now these IT guys have come up with a new technology.

That is, they are going to insert a Silicon chip in the human body and keep them under surveillance.

This chip, known as Verichip or xmark which is the size of two rice, will be inserted into the right hand discreetly. Later it wont even be visible to anybody. That man will be observed and identified with a 16-digit number in the chip. This is called Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID). After that, it's easy to know the whole history of that person any time by a computer. (Look at the flash animation)

The Bigwigs of America like Wal-mart, Procter&Gamble and United States Postal Service are rumored to implement this among its employees.

From now on it looks like everybody will have to hang a board around their neck that says "Verichip Inside". Soon nobody can simply escape from the computer system anymore.

All new Computers comes with Crap

Let’s assume you are buying a new laptop it could be a Sony Vaio or a Dell Inspiron or a HP Pavilion or even a Toshiba Satellite Or else even a simple brand new Desktop Computer. All these would always come with its own set of trash. Yes they are trash, I mean all those Evaluation Softwares.

After 30 days of honeymoon the anti-virus software comes with it will expire and it will keep bugging you to buy it. Even softwares like Microsoft Office etc comes like this with all new Systems.

You could enjoy your system only after removing all this trash from your computer. But how do we do it? We don't have to do it manually. There's a software that's available for free which cleans out all this crap from your new PC, which is named appropriately so, as "PC Decrapifier".

This "Vacuum cleaner" searches for such trash and removes it completely. After that it's guaranteed that you will enjoy your computer more.

Bye Bye to Pentium, Welcome to Penryn

Early this year Chip giant Intel announced the next version of Pentium. By the end of this year the new type of microprocessor known as Penryn will be supposed to be available in the market. In 1993 Pentium came into the market with a huge hype and made a big impact on the market.

Vinod Dham, one of the important people in creating this is known as "The Father of Intel Pentium processor". He was born in Pune (India), studied in Delhi and flew to USA. He was in Intel till he became the VP then he quit.

These Penryn processors will be having 45 nanometer technology. Today’s processors are with 65 nanometer technology. This difference will make the size of the chip not only small, but also transistors in them will grow in numbers. It will also use less power. In one way or another Moore's Law is being proved time and again.

Car PC

Let’s assume you are traveling in a car when somebody calls you on your cell phone to ask about Hypervisor. You are at a loss. You want to Google it but you need a computer, which you don't have at this moment. You are helpless. Also wouldn’t you prefer NOT to use a Blackberry to check your emails while driving?

Just for situations like these something called a "Car PC" or "Auto PC", comes in handy. This Computer becomes a part of your car’s dashboard. It also features a wireless connection, which makes it easier to connect to the internet. It is also known as Carputer.

As you start the ignition this also boots up automatically. It has a touch screen along with audio, video, GPS, a software to diagnose your car, Satellite radio and other extra features making it all the more attractive.

We would find soon cars with this feature built-in, or maybe it's already in the market.

Also, I wish if there is software, which could do all the activities we normally would do on a daily basis on the computer like checking our emails, checking our calendar, Visiting CNN.com etc that would be a welcome addition. As it does all the clicks and movements of the mouse, while we simply have to stare at the screen. At first that software should be able to monitor and learn about ourselves. Another attractive feature very much useful for Car computing would be when we say "Go to Google mail" it should be able to automatically check our Google mail for us.

Anything is possible nowadays.

Modern World War

Atomic bombs are yesterday's news in the world of wars. Today countries have learnt to war against each other appropriate to the modern world. Money is the weapon in that war. Iran the fourth richest country in oil is in such a state that, you have to wait in line for hours to get fuel. Their Economic Policy is not right, it seems.

Zimbabwe known for its cricket is in a state of confusion today. You need about 10,000 Zimbabwe money to buy a loaf of bread. The reason behind this is their economy or more precisely the government's handling of its economic policies is the general opinion.

Even a small change or correction on economic policies can lead either to major achievements or downfall. That's equal to waging a war with atomic weapons.

The latest in this line of war is China and USA's war of Trade. Unlike India, China has not changed the value of its currency for a long time, thereby getting the Dollar advantage. (India on the other hand has been increasing its currency value which is a known fact)
America is under the pressure to change the value of the undervalued Chinese currency but the Chinese are not interested. But they are constantly on pressure from America. If pressured too much China is threatening to sell its reserve of 1.3 trillion American Dollars which they have, which will cause a major economy crash in the United States. But that would have ripple effect on the economies of both India and China.

If we try to bring down one another to get revenge, it will end up bringing trouble to everyone involved. So, it's better to live and let live.

Wall Street talks about Virtualization

Lots of big companies got the idea to have just one server box, that can run multiple server operating systems like Windows and Unix together or just many Windows OS on the same physical machine together and save big money. The news is that many Data centers, which were like junk pile, are being cleaned up because of this.

The reason behind all this is something called Server Virtualization or Hypervisor technology. The pioneer in this technology the VMWare (Symbol-VMW) Company’s shares (IPO) became available in the market last week, which made Wall Street in the midst of its subprime troubles sit up and take notice of "Virtualization" in wonderment. Although the stock of this company is on the rise for now, what will happen in a few weeks or months is anybody's guess.

Some people under the impression that this is the Google of tomorrow have started buying the company's shares in huge amount, while lots of other people are cautioning not to get caught in the stock market strategies.

But many do believe that the software ESX of VMWare is strong and that it saves millions in expenses for big corporates have started buying its shares. That too many IT professionals are in this.

Only time can tell whether All that glitters is Gold …or not.

With GPS go miles

Good news for people of free spirit who would like to go where ever they want to go, when ever they want to go with the help of a small television like gadget fitted in their cars known as Global Positioning System [GPS] available for now in countries like America. But bad news for all the paper map books manufacturers as their sales has gone down. A polite, attractive female voice gives turn by turn directions to the place they wish to go in this system.

This system is not brand new. Just that it has reached even the common man in recent days. This technology was initially used by the American army for the purpose of keeping an eye on its enemies activities till some years back. The GPS receiver is the main box that you need for this system. Popular brands like Garmin, TomTom sell it for about $250 with no monthly payments. Only the insurance for cars, which has built-in GPS on its dashboard, is high. Lots of cell phones too have this system.

Just for this purpose there are 24 satellites plus 3 emergency satellites orbiting in space.
All these 27 satellites get their solar power from Sun, which is 12,000 miles away from the earth. If all these 27 satellites die that would be the death of the entire GPS system as well. At present about million Americans use this system.

For example, for the question where am I? If I say – I'm 190 miles from Boston, MA, 52 miles from Trenton, NJ and 81 miles from Philadelphia, PA it’s easy to deduce that I'm in New York, which is exactly what the GPS does. This method is called Trilateration. For the GPS to work it needs to communicate with at least 3 satellites at a particular moment. GPS uses High- Frequency, Low-Power radio signals for this purpose so, you will be in trouble if you are in a place between high-rise buildings or if the weather is bad. Then the polite, sweet voiced lady can't help you.

Otherwise you are free to roam around just about anywhere alone. No need to take a print out of the directions from googlemaps. The sweet lady could even direct you to the wonderful Chettinad Aachi's Non-veg Indian restaurant in New Jersey for this weekend.
