Dell comes to Chennai




Dellடெல் நிறுவனர் மைக்கேல் டெல்

American (Round Rock, Texas) based Computer Hardware giant Dell,Inc setting up its Desktop manufacturing Plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai,Tamil Nadu,India.This plant is planned to be worth around Rs 280 crores.

It comes up in a 50-acre site at Sriperumbudur Hi-Tech Park, with an investment of US $30 million.
Dell has got already eight manufacturing facilities world wide. It will be the company's third facility in Asia-Pacific. They plan to manuufacture desktop computers with the plant's initial capacity planned at 400,000 units per annum.The move will bring the number of Dell employees working in India to 20,000.

Dell Inc Founder & Chairman Michael Dell, he founded this billion dollar company while he was still a student at the University of Texas at Austin in 1984.He founded the company as PC's Limited [sic] with just $1000.As of 2006 Dell employs more than 63,700 people worldwide.

Interesting fact is Dell sells all its products both to consumers and corporate customers, using a direct-sales model via the Internet and the telephone network. There customer service is wellknown around.

In India, Dell has customer support centers in the northern cities of Gurgaon and Mohali; and in the southern cities of Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Current President & CEO is Kevin Rollins.

Highend laptop Alienware is one of a subsidiaries of Dell.
